Museums

With one of the most impressive museum collections in Europe, Liverpool is an ideal city for history buffs!

In a landmark waterfront building, the Museum of Liverpool reflects the city’s global significance through its unique geography, history and culture. Visitors can explore how the port, its people, their creative and sporting history have shaped the city.

The Albert Dock houses both the Merseyside Maritime Museum and International Slavery Museum, where you can find out all about the companies, people and ships connected to this port city.

Explore Ancient Egypt and get up close and personal with dinosaurs at the World Museum in St George’s Quarter. This museum even has some live specimens, with real live colonies of leaf cutter ants in the Bug House and an array of beautiful fish in the Aquarium.

Galleries

Tate Liverpool holds major international exhibitions of contemporary art, along with the national collection of British art from 1500 to the present day.

One of the finest art galleries in Europe, the Walker Art Gallery is home to renaissance masterpieces, Tudor portraits and one of the best collections of Victorian and Pre-Raphaelite art in the country. The gallery also has an outstanding display of contemporary art including work by David Hockney, Lucian Freud and Bridget Riley.

As Liverpool’s centre for the contemporary arts, Bluecoat showcases talent across visual art, music, dance, live art and literature. As the most historic building in Liverpool’s city centre, Bluecoat has four galleries.

Open Eye Gallery is an independent not-for-profit photography gallery based in Liverpool. This is one of the UK’s leading photography spaces, and the only gallery dedicated to photography and related media in the North West of England.
